Cambridge Teams in The Limelight
BASKETBALL AT TE AWAMUTU HODGSON CUP TO "B" REPS. Under ideal weather conditions and in the pleasant surroundings of Te Awamutu College grounds Cambridge representative basketball teams enjoyed a most successful day's play on Saturday. • The "B" team brought home with them the Hodgson Cup presented to the winners of the "B" grade competition. The "A" team were runnerS'Up in a final match with Hamilton "A" for the Rickit Cup. This final was a fine exhibition of basketball at its best and the girls in green were an equal match for the Hamilton team but just failed to put the ball through the ring as often as required. B. McLaren played a brilliant game in the defence third and was very ably supported by J. Christie and J. Lynds. The three centres were outstanding and were every bit the equal of their opponents. In the goal third, Y. Hill, showed to advantage. The following players were selected in a "possibles v. probables" match for Waikato's representative team: R. Chamberlin, Y. Hill, M. Paton, J. Christie and B. McLaren. It looks as though Cambridge will again be represented at the New Zealand Dominion Basketball tournament which will be held in Nelson during August of this year. In "B" grade matches for the Wallis Cup results were: Primary A 7 beat Girl Guides 6; Primary A. 10 beat St. Andrew's C, 3; St. Peter's B. 30 beat St. Andrew's D.. 1; High Blue 22 beat Leamington 13; St. Peter's B. beat Primary C. by default; High Red 27 beat St. Andrew's C. 4; High Green 11 beat Girl Guides 5; High Blue 26 beat Primary B. 4; St. Andrew's D. beat Leamington by default; High Red beat Primary C. by default.
