Cocoa for Pupils at Lunch Time

THE CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL / V SCHEME PROVES SATISFACTORY . The scheme instituted''a fortnight ago of providing hotycocoa at lunch time was proving yery satisfactory at the primary Softool, stated the headmaster, Mr S/B. Dunn, at the monthly meeting foi the school committee on Monda/ evening. The drinks were available jo all children who wished to participate in the scheme and so far \n/average of 260 a day had been Mrved. Miss Ray had charge of th# scheme. Sixteen trays were required to handle the drinks, added Mr Dunn. The committee had purchased the timber, and the trays had been made at the Manual Training School. The Education Board had provided a sink and cupboards to hold the equipment. Two gas rings had been installed. Hot drinks at midday have been

available at the secondary department for several years and are much appreciated there. The morning bottle of milk is also taken advantage of by the majority of the children. An improvement in this direction has been the prqvision of a special area for rinsing the empty bottles. Except for the infants, the children rinse their own bottles. Primary Roll Up.

The - headmaster reported that the primary school roll was 481, an increase of seven for the month. At the secondary department the roll had dropped by six to 168, the decrease being due to the departure of families from Karapiro to Mangakino. A proposal to plant an area at the > High School with trees on Arbor Day was outlined by Mr Dunn. He said it was intended to invite representatives of local bodies to attend the tree planting. Following a report that the new tennis courts at the secondary department were in a bad way, advice was ; received that the contractor would effect improvements. Present at the meeting were Messrs C. G. Wallace (chairman), J. S. Archer, At D. Bluck, K. Cosson, W. H. Cubis,- C. E. Hargraves, F. H. Green, S. B. Dunn (headmaster) and E. J. Littler (secretary).
