A poll taken by the United Press of editors throughout the world , shows that they rate the three biggest news stories of 1946 so far as (1) the Nuremberg verdicts; (2) the Bikini atom bomb tests,; (3) the Republican Congressional victory. The Australian ranking of the best 10 was: Nuremberg, Bikini, Bernborough’s breakdown, Palestine violence, the Heath murder trial, the Yoisuki’s voyage, the Republican victory, Indian selfgovernment, the Canadian spy ring, Hugh Baillie’s interview with Mr Stalin. Other nations placed the first three stories as follows: United*:. States, Republican victory, Nuremberg, removal of most price, controls; European countries, Nuremberg,' Baillie’s interview, Bikini; South America, Nuremberg, the Reoublican victory, Bikini; Japan, Bikini, Nuremberg, the Reoublican victory; Philippines, Nuremberg, Philippines independence, the Renubli'-’an victory. '
