Cambridge Races On Labour Day

WAIKATO HUNT MEETING Arrangements have been made lor the Bar® dowie Hack Handicap at the Waikato Hunt 1 Races at Cambridge on Monday to be run in j three divisions, and the Bruntwcod Hack Handicap to be run in two divisions. In spite I of this, the meeting should be very satisfactory ; and a large crowd is anticipated. j

The programme opens at 11.15 a.m. with the Bardowie Handicap. In the first division, the form candidates are Pavaals, who has had three placings, and the improving Foxfable. Happy Fox has disappointed several times in the past but may be more solid with age. Miss Hiria was third at the Taranaki Hunt meeting last month. Tt will be hard to go past FOXFABLE PAVAALS

There arc a number of unknown quantities in the second division, Royal Advice being the only one with a placing this season. Merriftil won a jumping event at Te Rapa early this year. Unless any form conies to light at Rotorua on' Saturday it will be hard to pick anything to beat—

ROYAL ADVICE merrifUl

The third division will be a more interesting contest, with the locally trained Blue Vixen the likely favourite after her second and third at Tauranga last week. Beau Pell showed speed at Avondale and Cornell is returning to good racing trim. Te Wahine has pace, and will have a chance in this field, as will Continuation (Lang Bian-Korokio) from the Townsend stable. Form points to— BLUE VIXEN BEAU PELL

The i race for surprises is the Farmers’ Steeplechase, and this year's field of 19 is very open. Top-weight is Scale who went fair races against stronger company than this for a third and a fourth at Ellerslie at the recent meeting. Ballinabuoy has shown great promise in his schooling but has yet to race up to expectations. Twelve O’clock is a stayer and a safe jumper who should be in the money. Star Duchess and Stanford King have quiet reputations, and Maori Dance and Hot Ash raced prominently in the open steeplechase at the point-to-point last month. Modern View was placed at Tauranga in a hurdle race, and Sandview has won several point-to-point events. The most support may come for— MODERN VIEW HOT ASH TWELVE O’CLOCK

Vindicator will be at a very short price in the Hunters’ Hurdles after his good second to Town Survey at Ellerslie last Saturday. Sir Jovial, Our Pat, Pomade and Waterhound have all had placings which do not provide much additional recommendation, although well on the day, Waterhound might surprise. Jason Lad won well at the point-to-point, and Modern View, if started here in preference to the previous race is a place prospect. Dinkum Pal has an improver’s chance in a field which should find the favourites to be— VINDICATOR . SIR JOVIAL . JASON LAD

The field of 15 in the Members’ Memorial i Handicap shduld' provide a fine contest with I betting taking a wide range. The topweight, ; Rakanui has no recent form, but Valley Boy was a winner at Paeroa recently and has earned his 9.2. Representative is never a good prospebt, and he might be either first or last. Conspiracy has not run a bad race this season, and week after week has been fourth and < fifth in the best company. He must be given ! a great show here. Ruling Master, if started, will be one of the favourites, although he has not trained on as well as George Cobb had hoped. If back to his best he should fight out the issue. Flying Jim is improving with every ' race, and was a good fourth to Cowper and Co. at Ellerslie on Saturday. Sylis won over the distance at Tauranga on Saturday, but j was somewhat lucky to beat Bedivere, who: had to make up a lot of ground in the straight. The latter is trained on the course and it ! would be a popular win for his owner, who has been indisposed for several weeks, should •he score here. Tilting impressed at Te Aroha and should hold the remainder on the light weights safe. Prospects are—

BEDIVERE CONSPIRACY RULING MASTER The Hunt Cup was reviewed in Wednesday’s paper when the selcetions were — THE DOZER MASTER FRANCIS FOX HUNTING Form horses in the first division of the Brur.twood Hack Handicap are Trustful, a winner at Tauranga, liambion and Ballina, who have had recent placings, and th'c locally tiained Swanec, who has so far raced unluckiU. Rose Marie has shown glimpses of form but Pcla has been disappointing since his good win at Te Rapa early in the year. There will be strong support for— SWANEE TRUSTFUL The local candidate Brown Duke will be well supported if he is paraded in the second division. He won well at Tauranga, but was slightly hurt when coming home. Tin Musk was a winner recently, and Our Dave and Te Wepit have shown their speed on several occasions. If the winner of the Bardowie Handicap starts again calculations might be upset—perhaps through Blue Vixen. The favourites will be— BROWN DUKE TIN MUSK There is a large field for the Ladies’ Bracelet, but some scratchings are likely. Very few of the runners have any known form. I.ambro, however, has shown a liking for this class of event and won a double at the Taranaki Hunt meeting last month. He has since gone fair races among the better class hacks, and last Saturday was third to Duke Roval and Queen’s Knight. Without winning, Captain Jesse has gone good races this season for two seconds and two thirds, and has been finishing on. Wit'll a strong rider he will provide Lambro with some opposition. Imaman is a place prospect, partcularly if the going is heavy, but all of the others will have to betaken on trust. Most support should come for— LAMBRO CAPTAIN JESSE IMAMAN There are a number of form horses in the Bollard Memorial Handicap which will conclude the day. Leigh Hark and South Riding have had a let up recently, but Good Company went fairly well for fourth in her first outing for some time, at Tauranga, and will have the benefit of her own course. Beryl Fox was third at Tauranga, and Zulu Boy is well placed if he is back to form. Horonui raced well at Te Aroha for a surprise third and was right up fourth last Saturday. The distance should suit him here. Observatory is an in-and-out mare to be taken on trust. There will be solid local support for Tavernside, who is fast coming back to form and knows the course well. The promoted hack, Hunting ; Camp appears the best of the minimum weights. In a good betting race the best supported may be— I HORONUI TAVERNSIDE BERYL FOX
