Voting At The Coming Elections

SERVICEMEN’S RIGHTS INSPECTION OF ROLLS Men and women who were in the Services overseas should note their obligations and privileges in connection with enrolment. The fact that they recorded their votes overseas for earlier elections does not necessarily mean that their names appear on the present rolls.

In connection with the Waikato main roll, for instance, it has been found in Te Awamutu and elsewhere, and in Cambridge too, that the names of quite a considerable number of eligible electors have not appeared. The fact is that they have not made personal application and therefore they should lose no time in applying for enrolment as the closing of the supplementary roll is approaching. When we approached the local registrar, Mr G. W. Kite, he stated he had had telephone calls from a number of ex-servicemen advising they were not on the roll. He had promptly told them they should make immediate application to get on the supplementary roll.

The roll for the electorate is now available for inspection.

Ex-service personnel are not disqualified from voting even though they had been out of the country for 12 months, or from their immediate district for three months prior to the election.

Under the provisions of the Statutes Amendment Bill members or ex-members of the Forces who have served overseas, may vote by declaration if not registered as electors. - If lie or she has been resident three months in a district prior to the election then they may vote by declaration for that electorate; but if not resident three months, then they can vote by declaration for the district in which they last resided for three months prior to .going overseas.
