MR. J. J. CAMERON HONOURED
LEAVING FOR HIKURANGI
Mr J. J. Cameron, of the local Railway Dept, staff, left Cambridge on transfer to Hikurangi yesterday. Mr Cameron, who is the son of Mr and Mrs J. Cameron, of Bowen Street, commenced his Railway career at Cambridge. He received his secondary education at Hamilton, travelling daily with many other Cambridge young people by train. Joining the Armed Forces he saw service with the Railway Operating Co. in Egypt, returning to take up duties in Cambridge, where he took an active part in the affairs of the local branch of the 2nd. N.Z.E.F. Association, being secretary of the branch. In addition he was a prominent member of the local referees’ association. Prior, to his depai'ture he was met by members of the staff and of the public when the Stationmaster, Mr A. P. L. Andrew, in presenting Mr Cameron with a token in appreciation of the esteem in which he has been held, expressed keen regret at his leaving the district.
