Labour Day Arrangements

ACTIVITIES IN CAMBRIDGE SEVERAL SPORTING FIXTURES There will be much activity in Cambridge over the Labour week-end, with sport predominating. It will provide a welcome break for those actively connected with the election campaign.

The annual race meeting of the Waikato Hunt will be the main attraction on Monday, and a large influx of visitors is certain. Special facilities are being provided to handle traffic, which is likely to be back to pre-war proportions. The first event will commence at 11.15 a.m. and patrons are advised not to leave their arrival too late. Arrangements are made on the card for a programme of 11 races, including three jumping events, and two for gentlemen riders. The Auckland Trotting Club is hold-

mg a meeting tomorrow and on Monday. Several Cambridge' enthusiasts intend being present for the first day and returning for the hunt races on Mcndav.

Another week-end sporting feature will be the Cambridge Golf Club’s annual tournament. This will open tomorrow afternoon and continue all day Sunday. Large entries have been received already and the course, which is in excellent order at present, will be fully taxed.

The local bowling greens will !>? open for the playing of friendly games on Saturday and Sunday, and a number of teams will be taking part in the various tournaments around the Waikato on Monday. The Leamington Bowling Club will hold its official opening tomorrow.

The band dance in the town hall tomorrow night will add to the holiday atmosphere, and there will also be cards and dancing at Kaipaki. Another dance will be held in the town hall on Monday night. The annual Christian Convention will take place in the town hall on Monday from 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at which there will be a number of prominent speakers. An invitation is extended to all interested to attend. The Post Office will be closed all day Monday with the exception of the telephone exchange. It is anticipated that the postal counter will experience a busy time when it is open as usual from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m. tonight and again from 9 to 11.30 a.m. tomorrow morning. There will not be an issue of the Waikato Independent on Monday.
