ROTO-O-RANGI TENNIS CLUB

AN ENJOYABLE DANCE

On Saturday evening last the Roto-o-rangi hall was the scene of a dance held by the Roto-o-rangi Tennis Club. Mr T. Wiles carried out the duties of M.C., while the Bryant orchestra supplied excellent music for the dancers. A novelty waltz was won by Miss O'Malley and Mr G. Sosich, and a "statue" log' cabin dance was won by Miss O'Malley and Mr S. Rogers. An enjoyable supper was served by the ladies after which dancing was continued until midnight. Among those present were:— Mesdames H. Campin. L. Howard, L. Thornton, J. W. Peake, T. Wiles, H. Ridgway, S. Wiles, W. E. Perrott, J. Jamieson, Bryant, J. Steer, W. Reynolds, Miss Yvonne Perrott, O'Mallev, Valerie Wallis, Wilma West, Valerie Duncan, Dawn Campin, Ngaire Campin, Dawn Foster. Shirley Swindle - hurst, Gwen Perrott, Joy Swindlehurst and Valerie Dahlberg.

SILVER WEDDING

CELEBRATED AT MONAVALE

A very enjoyable evening was held in the Monavale Hall recently to celebrate the silver wedding of Mr and Mrs R. Logan. Relatives and friends from many districts had gathered together to make this a memorable occasion for the guests of honour. Shoulder sprays were presented to Mrs Logan and Mrs Fleck. A very delicious supper was served by the ladies after which Mr and Mrs Logan cut the beautiful wedding cake which had been presented to them. The toast to Mr and Mrs Logan was proposed by Mr F. H. Williamson and to Mrs Fleck by Mr Wassen.

Dancing to the music of Mrs Crisp and Messrs. Rust and Williamson of Te Awamutu was very much enjoyed. Items by Colleen Kernoghen, Mrs Gibson, Miss Pat Uttinger, Mr and Mrs Crisp and Messrs. G. Goodwin and Betteridge were heartily applauded. The singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.

Among the relatives present were Mr and Mrs Wassen and Misses Agnes and May Wassen of Hamilton, Mr and Mr Fleck and family of Otorahanga, Mr and Mrs Blakely of Huntly, Mr and Mrs Young and Mrs Kerr of Auckland and Mrs Fleck senior, of Cambridge.

TWO WEDDINGS. HULME—HOLMES The Trinity Presbyterian Church, Cambridge, was prettily decorated with pink blossoms, sweetpeas and stocks for the marriage on Saturday last of Elsie Richmond, daughter of Mr and Mrs S. Holmes, Bruntwood, Cambridge, to Bruce Barnett Hulme, son of Mr and -Mrs A. F. Hulme, Thornton Rd., Cambridge. The Rev. Colin McKenzie was the officiating minister while Miss F. Hooker presided at the organ. Entering the church with her father, the bride made a pretty picture in a gown of parchment shaded georgette and French lace. The shirred bodice was finished at the waistline with insets of lace, which were also carried out in the fully-flared panel in the front of the skirt, which flowed in a long pointed train at the back. Very fall georgette sleeves were finished with lace, which tapered to a point over' the .hand. Her full-length veil of parchment shaded tulle fell from a coronet of rosebuds and sweetpeas and she carried a bouquet of rosey. sweetpeas and stock.

Maiding the bride were the Misses Joyce Duncan and Noeline Fisher who were gowned in frocks of shell pink georgette and lace fashioned on similar lines to that of the bride's, and featuring three-quarter length sleeves inset with lace. Their Juliet caps of pink lace were edged with georgette, and finished with small sprays, and they carried shower bouquets of pink tulips, stocks and sweet peas. The bridegroom was attended by Messrs John Richardson, as best man and Bob Rush as groomsman. The duties of ushers at the church were carried out by Mr Sam Holmes jnr. and Mr Roger Ray. A reception was held later at the home of the bride's parents, in a marquee, which had been attractively decorated with punga ferns and springflowers. Mrs S. Holmes received her guests wearing a smart blue ensemble i beaded in a deeper blue and worn with a flower-trimmed hat. Assisting her was Mrs A. F. Hulme, in a floral frock worn under a wine shaded edge-to-edge coat and hat to tone. Their shoulder sprays were of pink spring flowers and carnations. For travelling on her honeymoo'i the bride chose a pale delphinium blue frock with navy accessories and blue flower trimmed straw hat. HUGHES—CUBIS. A wedding of wide interest was recently solemnised at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Cambridge, I when Joyce Margaret, daughter of Mr |W. H. Cubis, was married to Robert | Hughes, son of the late Mr and Mrs ; Richard Hughes, of Caleraini, Ireland. Bowls of lilies and spring flowers i decorated the church, where the Rev. j Coiln MacKenzie performed the ceremony and Miss Hooker played the wedding music. L The bride, who was given away by [her father, wore a charming gown of white organza over satin, cut on I classical lines. The close fitting bedice featuring a deep inset of net offset by a square neckline and finished with a net frill. The waistline was defined by a net frill, from which the fully gathered skirt fell to form a long-shaped train at the back. Her embroidered tulle veil was caught to the head by a topknot of white stock and sweetpeas, and she carried a beautiful shower bouquet of lily-of-the -valley, sweetpeas and stock. j

In attendance as bridesmaid, was Miss Mavis Burge, whose gown of forget me-not blue organza over satin bftck pique, was cut on the same lines as that of the bride's and slightly trained. Her petalled Juliet cap of the same material was finished with a topknot of flowers to tone with her bouquet of blue irises, cornflowers and hyacinth.

Mr Rob. Ogilvie was best man and Messrs Alf Cubis and Mervyn Cubis were the ushers.

The Leamington Hall had been artistically decorated with Iceland poppies, sweetpeas and tulips, where the reception was held later. Mrs W. H. Cubis received the guests in a green linen suit, relieved with white and worn with a shoulder spray of cream roses. Mrs R. A. Hughes, who assisted her, wore a honey gold frock under a fur coat, and shoulder spray of freesias and tulips. When the bridal couple left on their honeymoon the bride wore a moss sreen woollen suit, with tan hat and tan accessories.

OREPUNGA GARDENING CIRCLE

A pleasant afternoon was spent by the Orepunga ladies recent when they held their first monthly meeting of the newly formed gardening circle. A large portion of the time was spent in discussing the suggested programme for the next six months Arranged by Mrs Wood. A competition for the best bloom was won by Mrs Salt's marvellous head of stock —an outstanding growth of bloom. This monthly competition entitles the winner to be tho holder for the period of a I.owl which had been made and donated by Mr F. White. A social competition was won by Mrs Wood and afternon tea ended the afternoon's meeting.
