Special Facilities For Motorists

LABOUR DAY RACES EXTRA PARKING PADDOCKS With the co-operation of the Transport Department, the Waikato Hunt is making every endeavour to provide adequate and efficient service for motorists attending the race meeting at Cambridge on Labour Day. What is being done is a genuine effort to prevent occurrences similar to those on other courses of late, when parking has been congested and traffic jams have held up patrons for as -much as an hour.

One of the greatest improvements this year will be the use of an additional five acres of land as parking paddocks for both members and the general public. These two extra paddocks are situated on the west side of Vogel Street and the entrance provides a straight run in for patrons arriving from Hautapu along the back road. It will not be necessary for motorists arriving this way to enter Taylor Street, and thus considerable congestion of traffic will be avoided. Motorists arriving from the south or along Hamilton Road will use the present extensive parking paddocks. The general traffic regulations are much the same as in the past, said Inspector C. I. Fletcher to an Independent representative yesterday. Members' cars, will travel down Hall Street and other private cars will proceed • along Vogel Street. Local taxis will use Grey Street and these will be the only vehicles allowed to travel in Taylor Street. Cars from the north proceeding down Victoria Road cannot turn into Taylor Street, but must proceed on as far as King Street and then back. Naturally no parking will be. allowed in Taylor Street.

Altogether 11 Transport Dept. inspectors will be controlling the race traffic in and around Cambridge. There will be inspectors on point duty at the Church" 6f England corner, Vogel Street-Hamilton Road, Hall Street-Hamilton Road, Post Office intersection, Vogel Street-Taylor Street, Hautapu Road-Taylor .Street, horse float entrance. There will be a foot patrol in Taylor Street, and road patrols between Tirau and Cambridge and Hamilton and Cambridge, as well as a general patrol. Automobile Association patrols will have control of the parking within the four paddocks provided. The usual prominent signs will be erected for the guidance of motorists.
