TYRE FACTORY
ERECTION AT HUTT HUGE CONTRACT LET Contracts have been placed for the erection of the main manufacturing building of the new tyre factory at Upper Hutt for Dunlop New Zealand Ltd. This will be one of the largest industrial buildings yet erected in New Zealand. It has a length of approximately 720 ft. and a width of approximately 200 ft., and will be of steel frame, reinforced concrete and brick construction, with a saw-tooth type roof. Six tenders were received for the main contract, and the Fletcher Construction Co., Ltd., were the successful tenderers on this section of the work. Separate contracts have been placed with Messrs Win. Cable and Co., Ltd., for the structural steelwork and with a number of other firms in the various trades. The cost of this one building, when completed will be in the vicinity of £250,000. In due course further contracts will be let for other buildings and site development. It is expected that the construction work will extend over a period of 12 to 15 months.
