ROLL OF HONOUR

PTE. T. C. SAWERS NOW PRESUMED DEAD Mr J. C. Sawers, of Cambridge, has received official advice under date of 25th. inst. that his son, Private Tracey Campbell Sawers, of the A.1.F., previously reported missing, has now been presumed dead. This advice was from the Australian Military Authorities and through the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, who extended sincere sympathy to the bereaved parents. The late Tracey Campbell Sawers was the second son of Mr and Mrs J. C. Sawers, and was born in Cambridge. He commenced his education at the Cambridge Primary School, after which he went to the Huntly Private School, Marton. From there he went on to Mt. Albert Grammar. On the completion of his schooling he was on the staff of “The Waikato Independent” for a period. About the year 1936 the late Pte. Sawers went across the Tasman, to Australia and entered the Sydney University, where he was studying veterinary science. Soon after the outbreak of war he joined up with the A.I.F. His last letter to his parents was written from Singapore and following the fall of Singapore he was subsequently posted missing. The late Pte. Sawers was 36 years of age and was a single man. In his Grammar School days he was a good athlete and lie established running records for his school.
