LAND TRANSFERS AND , MORTGAGES INTERESTING FIGURES The activity in the property market, which was such a feature of economic conditions in 1943, continued in 1944, according to stract of Statistics, recently released. The number of land-transfer transactions in 1944 recorded a reduction of 3,462 (9.9 per cent.), while the amount of conisderation fell by £6,074,270 (16 per cent). Compared with 1942 however, the 1944 figures showed an increase of 5,000 (18.8 per cent.) in number and £9,349,516 (41.6 per cent) in value.
A comparison of the numbers and values of landJtransfer transactions during the past three years, distinguishing town and suburban properties from country properties, is given in the following (able, with Ihe figures for town and suburban properties given first: In 1942, the number of transaction were 21,589, to the value of £15,887,273; country properties being 4.593 to the value of £6,580,176. In 1943, the number was 28,223, to the value of £24, 634,603; while country properties were 6,791 in number, to the value of £13,256,632. In 1944, town and suburban properties were 24,861 in number to the value of £21,096,281, while country properties were §,691 in number and to the value of "£10,720,684.
