N.Z. LOAN & MERCANTILE CO. KEEN COMPETITION At the stock sale held by the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Co., at the Cambridge saleyards on Monday last there was a medium yarding of cows. Prices were: Fat heifers, £B/2/6 to £l2; fat P.A. cows, £9/15/-; fat cows and heifers, £6/15/- to £9/5/-; heavy cows, £5/10/- to £7/5/-; boners, £4 15/- to £5/10/-; bulls, £4/12/- to £8; weaner Jersey heifers, £5/3/-; springing heifers, £7/15/-. Sheep. There was a heavy yarding of sheep and lambs, which sold under good competition. Prices as follows: Forward lambs, 17/- to 19/6; medium lambs, 15/3 to 17/-; small lambs, 11/6 to 15/-; two-tooth ewes, 38/-; five and six-year ewes £l/2/9; aged ewes, 15/to 17/6; rams, 2Jgns. to 7^gns. TE AWAMUTU STOCK SALE The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report capacity yardings of all classes of stock at their tri-weekly sale, held last Thursday, and the largest attendance of farmlers ever seen. Mr J. Corrigan's entry of sheep and store cattle attracted considerable interest, buyers from all parts of the district and other centres participating in the bidding, with local farmers securing the majority. In, the sheep section, close oji 6000 head were yarded and every line with one exception was disposed of. The cattle section exceeded 550 head, all classes selling well. Top prices in the beef section were secured by Mr H. S. McWilliam, of Puahue, for his two pens of P.A. bullocks, making £l6 16s and £ls 16s respectively. A small yarding of Jersey heifer calves sold exceptionally well, making to £5 18s per head—pen lots. A large yarding of pigs came forward and owing to export buyers not operating as freely as usual (some firms having Reached their- quota), there was an easing tendency in prices on our previous sale. Sheep: Fat wethers 31s Id to 33s 3d, fat lambs 22s lOd to 25s 9d, fat ewes 20s 9d to 24s 3d, ditto others 18s 6d to 19s 6d, store 2 and 4-tooth wethers 26s to 27s 6d, store lambs 16s 6d to 19s 6d, medium ditto lis 6d to 15s 3d, breeding ewes (2-tooths) 31s 6d to 335, 4-year ewes 26s lOd to 29s 7d, 5-year ewes to 26s 3d, mixed age ewes 22s 3d to 28s, good 1-shear S.D. rams 6gns to lOgns, medium sorts 4gns to 51gns, inferior type 2gns to 3igns. Cattle: P.A. bullocks on a/c Mr H. S. McWilliam £l6 16s and £ls 16s respectively, a/c Mr Geo. Kerr £ls, a/c Mr J. L. Macky £l4 17s 6d, a/c Mr Syd. Smith £l4 7s 6d, Hereford heifers a/c Mr H. O. Kay £ll 7s 6d and £ll 2s, a/c Waikeria Bostal Institute £l4. (The above all sold pen lots.) Fat Jersey cows (heavy) £7 to £8 3s, medium ditto £5 to £6 19s, lighter ditto £4 to £5, heavy bulls £9 10s to £ll 10s, others £5 10s to £8 17s 6d.

Store cattle: Thrtee-year P.A. steers to £ll, 2-year P.A. and Hereford steers £9 'ss to £9 10s 3-year S.H. steers to £ll, younger ditto £7 to £8 ss, cows and calves £8 10s to £9 12s 6d, empty P.A. heifers £7 6s to £B, Jersey heifer calves £5 lis to £5 18s a head—pen lots, inferior ditto £3. Pigs: Heavy choppers £5 to £6 9s, others £3 to £4 19s, baconers (heavy) £5 to £5 4s, medium ditto £4 13s to £4 18s, light ba'coners and buttermilk pigs £3 15s to £4 10s, large stores £2 6s to £2 14s, slips 22s 6d to 31s 6d.
