BACK TO HALF

PETROL COUPONS

FOR PRIVATE CARS

The War Cabinet has decided that

the petrol ration for private .motorists is to revert to the half-coupon rate, and accordingly coupon No. 8, at half its face value, will be available during February, stated the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. The Minister said the North and South Island Motor Unions had made representations to him and the War Cabinet that they considered

the petrol supply position warranted the issue of two full coupons each month. He regretted such was not the case acordihg to latest advices received by the Government regarding the petrol supplies. In fact,

lese advices made it quite clear

that additional supplies could not be made available to the Dominion.

It had been Mriade clear to the Government that, even should local circumstances result in additional stocks of motor spirit being temporarily available in the Dominion, this position should be rectified, not by increased ration allowances, but by a corresponding decrease in demands for further supplies and tanker space.
