HIGH TEMPERATURES PEAT FIRE BURNING The drought conditions continue, though there were a few sprinkles of rain last night. They were not sufficient to moisten the top surface. The weather over the week-end was bright and hot with temperatures on Saturday and Sunday, the highest so far this summer. The peat fires are burning steadily throughout the Monavale swamp area./ There are acres in some places where the surface is nothing but white ashes and there is probably deep-seated fires in the peat.
