SONG AND DANCE

SUNDAY SCHOOL CONCERT PUPILS OF ST. ANDREW'S The concert in the Parish Hall, provided by the St. Andrew's Sunday School pupils under the guidance of Miss Nancy Armstrong, attracted a well-filled hall, and plays, songs and dances were well received by the audience. Perhaps the most outstanding items on the programme, the'plays given by the boys and girls respectively, were both loudly applauded by the audience, and the young actors and actresses acquitted themselves very creditably. The first play provided by members of the Boys' Bible Class, was titled "The Old Geyser," with Jim Simcock as Colonel Jiggs, and Colin Ruge as a convincing representation of his daughter. Richard Johnson was Joseph Smith, the plumber, and Brian Coote was the doctor. John McClellan took the part of Dorothy's suitor, and Paul Follis was a dignified butler. The play given by members of the Girls' Bible Class, "Bloaters," showed Beth Fairbrother as Mrs Brown, while Pam Oaten manfully supported the part of Bill. Audrey £mith took the part of Rene, Pat O'Laiighlen was Emily, and Bob Morris played the part of Georgie. The part of Mrs Muggins was taken by Joy White; and Rose and Daphne were Grace Morris, and Colleen Moore, respectively. Other items on the programme, following the opening choruses, "God Defend New Zealand," and "There'll Always be an England,'' were: A pianoforte due by Auriel and Jeanette Barton, followed by a song by John Randle, and Moon and Star songs by the Kindergarten. Star ballet by Jean Fairbrother and Barbara Richardson, followed by a piano solo by Judith Hanna came next, and this was followed by a character song, "You Can't Play in My Yard," by Lola Smith and Nola Morse.

A recitation by Natali Dodd came next, with Teddy Bears' Picnic by the pupils of the Kindergarten. Other items were: Maori song by Alister Dodd, an Irish Jig by the Kindergarten, and a song by Ruth McClennan.

The second half of the programme started with a chorus, "Silent Night," and "All Through the Night," by the girls' chorus, followed by a pianoforte duet by Pamela Oaten and David Thatcher. Apple song, by the boys' chorus came next, followed by "Please Give Me a Penny, Sir I" by Audrey Smith and a recitation by Margaret Harris. A song duet by Peggie Hansen and Doris Collins was followed by a mazurka by Jean Fairbrother and Barbara Richardson. The character song, "The Keys of Heaven," by Dawn White and Marcia May, was the concluding item on the programme. The presentations to the various prize-winners were as follows: Kindergarten: Derald Petherand Aurial Barton. Class I: Alister Dodd. Class II: Ruth McClellan and Margaret Harris. Junior Boys' Bible Class:: Jim Simcock. Junior Girls' Bible Class: Nola Morse. Intermediate Bible Class: Marcia May and Judith Hanna. Junior Choir: Girls, Ruth McClellan; boys, John McClellan. Second equal were: Shirley Edwards, Nola Morse, Brian Coote and Jim Simcock. :
