RURAL HOUSING
QUESTION OF LIABILITY
"MATTER FOR THE STATE"
The opinion that any liability under the Rural Housing Scheme should be borne by the Government and not the County Councils, who were administering the loans, was the consensuc of opinion at the September meeting of the Cambridge Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union on Friday. It was considered that the scheme was 'an emergency measure to increase production.
A remit moved by Mr G. A. Walsh was carried, as follows:
"That the County Councils be asked to obtain a referendum of their ratepayers before incurring any liability under the Rural Housing Scheme."
