WOOL APPRAISEMENTS

AUCKLAND DATES FOR THE ~... SEASON ■■■ SKIRTING NOW ESSENTIAL Dates for the coming season's wool appraisements have been announced by the Auckland Woolbrokers' Association. The first fixture will commence on November 14, while subsequent appraisements will commence on December 5, January 26, February 28 and April 1. The dates are subject to alterations, which may be necessary to meet possible needs arising as the season progresses. A few bales of new season's wool have arrived at the. Parnell stores, but it will before any large supplies come, forward. A few dry sheep, have been, shorn, but the bulk of the work has not yet commenced. ,; r Statements have been made recently by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, and by Mr H. M. Christie, chairman of the New Zealand Wool Council, informing growers that certain alterations have been made in the range of wool values for the coming season. Notification of these changes has been received by the. Auckland Woolbrokers' Association^/). A slight alteration has beeh",")fiade to all grades of fleece wool, the' effect of which will be that skirted wools will be appraised appreciably above unskirted wools. This change, together with an increase in some grades of bellies and pieces over last season's prices, will fully compensate those growers who skirt their clips efficiently. Wool Will not be: considered fully skirted if the bellies only are removed, although clips so treated jWill have an advantage oyer those clips where the bellies have not been removed, and growers should see that all dirty and fribby points are taken off, and so ensure the fleece being free from all stained and inferior fool. It is impossible to remove all seed from seedy fleece wool, but the collar and heavy seedy points should b ermoved as well. The importance of making a satisfactory job of skirting will therefore be seen. The place for this is in the shearing shed, as once the fleece is rolled and pressed it is a long and expensive task unrolling the fleece for skirting.
