FRIDAY September 20 — The Italian forces marching on Egypt suffered severely under an increasing bombardment from land, sea and air, which took heavy toll of their men and machines. * # # Tense expectancy was reported from French North Africa, where a decision to accept an offer of British protection was expected. .* * * The continuous reports from London stated that the morale of the people was unshaken by the German air fury which had been unleashed upon them. SATURDAY September 21— The Royal Air Force delivered the fiercest attack it had yet made on the German invasion bases. Boulogne, Calais and . Dunkirk were severely plastered and the German losses in men and materials were very heavy. * # # Part of the Piccadilly underground railway was converted into an air raid shelter. * # * German raiders carried out haphazard bombing of London. Many fires were started but they were soon quenched. SUNDAY September 22 The deliveries of American aeroplanes to Britain reached 500 a month. * • • There was no change in the situation in Egypt. The authorities in Indo-China , were taking emergency measures, owing to Japanese demands being rejected.
