SICK AND WOUNDED
APPEAL IN CAMBRIDGE THE CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED The campaign in Cambridge to raise money for the £250,000 Sick and Wounded Fund was launched last evening, when a meeting was .held of the joint committee representing the Red Cross Society and the St. John Ambulance Association. The funds raised in Cambridge will go towards the South Auckland Queen in the Auckland Provincial Queen Carnival. It was decided to hold a public meeting next Friday afternoon, at 2 p.m., in the Town Hall supperroom, when arrangements will be made for a canvass of the district .and also for the holding of various functions before the closing of the appeal on June 22. Representatives ,of various organisations in the district will be specially invited to
"We want everyone in Cambridge to be a shareholder in this fund,-' said the Mayor, Mr Edgar James, -who presided. "It does not matter bow small the contributions are, so long as everybody makes an effort to help."

iMr James congratulated the committee on securing the services of Mr R. S. Entwistle as secretary. The Mayor thanked Mr Entwistle for agreeing to act. , Mr.EntwisHe, reported ori a meeting held at Hamilton, which was attended by delegates from Morrinsville, Te Awamuhij Te Aroha, NgaTuawahia, Hamilton and Cambridge. it had been stated that the Queen Carnival would close on June 22. The South Auckland Queen had not yet been appointed, said Mr Entwistle. The' appointment had been left to the Returned Soldiers' Associations in the Waikato, and it was expected that the name of the ■queen would be made known in a day or two. At the present time the South Auckland representative was lchown as "Queen X." Request to Cambridge R.S.A. The Cambridge Returned Soldiers' Association had been asked to nominate a queen for South Auckland, but as the appointment is confined to the wife or daughter of a man serving in"the Second Expeditionary Force, it has been found impossible to enter a candidate. Mr Entwistle stated that an art union was being run in South Auckland for -a motor car. Cambridge had £IOO worth of tickets to sell and all mdhey from this source would be credited to Cambridge. An offer had> been received from Auckland for concert parties to visit the Waikatof Wrestling and boxing; matches would also be arranged. Mr Entwistle stated that he had written-to -Auckland to ascertain the prospects of securing a team of wrestlers; and boxers to appear in Cambridge. Flags would be available, if it were desired toehold a flag day, added Mr Entwistle.
It was stated that already several people had made offers to help.
The Mayor, : 'Mr Edgar James, presided, and also present were Mesdames H. C. Tod, W. R. Shaw, W. Munroe, W. A. Fisher, H. L. Nixon, Miss C. Ellis, Messrs H. E. Amyes, and R. SrEntwistle (secretary).
