TRIBUTES PAID

LATE MR J. L. SULLIVAN WREATH PLACED ON GRAVE A fitting tribute to the memory of the late Mr John L. Sullivan, who died at Cambridge on May 10, 1939, was paid on Sunday by Auckland members of the New Zealand DX Club and Cambridge Returned Soldiers, when floral emblems were placed on his grave at the iHautapu Cemetery. Mr Sullivan was an enthusiastic DX-er and a member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. At the grave-side on Sunday, Mr F. Hutchings, president of the New Zealand DX Club, expressed in feeling words the esteem in which Mr Sullivan was held by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Mr Hutchings placed on the grave a beautiful wreath brought from Auckland by members of the Auckland DX Club. The returned soldiers present then paid their respects by each placing a floral emblem at the foot of the tombstone of their comrade. Those present were Mrs Sullivan, Mr F. Hutchings, president of the New Zealand DX Club, and Messrs E. J. Turpan, J. Lambert, G. Bodman and Dr Mack, of Auckland; Mr R. Newcombe, president of the Cambridge Returned Soldiers' Association, and Mrs Newcombe, Mr . and Mrs T. H. Hampshire, Mr and Mrs J. V. Richards, Mr and Mrs J. Douce. The visitors and friends were entertained to afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs T. H. Hampshire at their residence in Thornton Road, where the party had the pleasure of viewing the beautiful International DX trophy won by Mr Sullivan in 1935, against competitors from all parts of the world, for the verification of the most stations on the long-wave band. On behalf of Mrs Sullivan, Mr Hampshire thanked those present

for their kind expressions towards her late husband, and sympathy to herself. Before leaving for Auckland, Mr Hutchings and party expressed their gratitude to Mr arid Mrs Hampshire for their kindness arid hospitality.
