PERSONAL (Mrs V. Gray and Miss. Dulcie Gray, of Wellington, have recently been the guests of Mrs M. Masterson, of Leamington. • • * Mrs Melody, of Wellington, was a recent visitor to Cambridge, where she was the guest of Mrs M. Masterson, of Leamington. FANCY DRESS PARTY FUNDS FOR COUNTRY QUEEN Funds for the Country Queen in the Centennial Carnival were considerably augmented yesterday afternoon, when a fancy.dress party was arranged in the Leamington Hall by the committee for the Roto-o-rangi district. All the fun of donning colourful fancy costumes was thoroughly enjoyed, and the children eagerly joined in the afternoon's merrymaking. Fascinating to watch were the little Scotsmen with their bright tartans, and the Pirates and Red Indians with black faces and gay costumes, who joined in the grand march and folk dances. Tea was later served for the childreni.

DOMAIN CROQUET CLUB "FIVE HUNDRED" AFTERNOON Golden daffodils and violets were daintily grouped about the reception room at Mrs 0. Gane's home on Thursday, when she arranged a "500" afternoon for the Domain Croquet Club. The winners of the prizes were Mrs 0. Gane and Mrs J. Ibbotson. Among those present were: Mesdames A. Pearce, F. Tucker, E. J. White, P. T. Glanville, J. Ibbotson, W. Wilkinson, E. Beer, W. White, I. Peebles, 0. Gane, A. Attwood, H. Betts, E. Nicholls, N. Goodwin, W. Hooker, H. Williams, E. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT ROTO-O-RANGI

I The monthly meeting of the Roto-|o-rangi Women's Institute was held in the local hall recently. Mrs W. Wakefield, who presided, extended a cordial welcome to visitors and members. Mrs J. Chapman, Waikato Federation president, gave a report of the Dominion Federation conference. She mentioned that there are 33,000 financial members of the Women's Institute. Mrs Chapman read a letter from Mrs Sainsbury (Gordonton Women's Institute), who represented the Waikato Federation of Women's Institutes at a conference of "Associated Women of the World," which was held in London recently. Mrs Chapman was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

The motto was "Newly gained knowledge is easily carried around," and the roll call, "Helpful 'gardening hints," proved instructive.

The awards in the competitions were as follows: Shortbread: Mrs 0. Shale 1, Mrs J. Reid 2, Mrs J. Cooper 3. Shoulder spray: Mrs Niekle 1, Mrs Cooper 2, Miss Cornwall 3. Spring flowers: Miss Cornwall 1, Mrs Niekle 2. Wood-pulp flowers: Mrs L. Duncan. A "Fruitful" competition, whoch was arranged by Mrs J. Cooper, who also presented the prize, was won by Mrs Dahlberg. The hostesses, who provided a delicious afternoon tea, were Mrs J. Reid, Mrs Kendon, Mrs H. Martin and Mrs R. Martin.
