MISS V. GARLAND HONOURED

A very happy afternoon was spent on Friday when Miss Vena Garland's, friends assembled at the home of Mr and Mrs R. Robson. The party which was organised by Mrs Robson took the form of a bathroom gift afternoon for, the guest of honour, who is shortly to be married.. She was the recipient of many useful gifts. A tennis tournament, was played by the younger members of the party, and prize*; were won by Miss.i Joyce ; Vickers; and Miss N. Bruce. :

Miss N. Bruce appropriately expressed good wishes for Miss Garland's future happiness. Miss Garland thanked all present for a very happy day and for the, many gifts and goodwill of hei* friends, many of whom she had known since childhood.

' A very delightful evening party was given by Mrs Bernard Brewer, at her home, Thornton Road, in honour of Mr and Mrs A. H. Nicoll who leave shortly for England.

The living-room was attractively arranged with zinnias, asters and hydrangeas. Mrs Brewer received her guests wearing a frock of black suede crepe and Miss Jean Brewer was wearing a frock of green floral georgette. Mrs A. H. Nicoll wore a frock of black crepe romainc with a cowl of. sequinned shell pink georgette. Those present were Mr and Mrs A. H. Nicoll, Mr and Mrs Norman Banks, Dr. and Mrs H. C. Tod, Mr and Mrs D. J. Lundon, Mr and Mrs Joe Banks, Mrs R. Smith (Auckland), Messrs Leo Cornaga and B. Brewer.

SUCKLING—COX.

A charming wedding and one of great interest to Cambridge was the marriage of Dorothy Maud, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs A. R. Cox, of Roto-o-rangi, with Mr Philip Will way Suckling, of \'~Pukekura»' which took place at St. Andrew's Church on Saturday,' afternoon. The officiating minister "was the Rev. C. AY. Chandler, arid Mr A. G. Boyce played the wedding music. A frock of pale coffee-tinted lace | was chosen by,. the bride, who was given away by her .father. Moulded to the figure, it fell in graceful lines to a train at the back. Fitting sleeves were flared at the wrist and partly caught into a little *cuff. A J matching hat of wide-brimmed straw was worn, trimmed with a small cluster; of self-coloured- flowers at the. side and fine, mesh covering the brim. She carried a sheaf of pink carnations and lilies.

garet Cox and Miss Cynthia Hewett, garet Cox arid Miss Bynthia Hewett, wore attractive arid unusual frocks of ivory chiffon, coin-spotted in brown and mounted on slips of pink taffeta. They wore sashes of cherry velvet and-cherry velvet bows at the neckline. In their hair were

wreaths of coral-coloured carnations and rose buds, and they carried sheaves of the same flowers. Mr B. Brewer attended the bridegroom as best man, and Mr W. W. Suckling as groomsman. The ushers were Messrs Basil Hewett, W. Hewett and Ted Cox. A reception was held after the ceremony in the Parish Hall, which was beautifully decorated with bowls of dahlias, zinnias and asters and sweet-peas, all in shades of pink. A prettily-decorated wedding bell was the work of Mrs A. H. Nicoll.

The guests were received by Mrs A. R. Cox, who wore a smart frock of patterned crepe in Paton pink with touches of navy. With it, she wore a wide navy straw hat and carried a bouquet of dusky pink roses and dahlias.
