SHEEP DOG TRIALS

CAMBRIDGE DISTRICT CLUB FIXTURE IN APRIL A meeting of the Cambridge Sneep Dog Trials Club was held in the Farmers’ Club rooms yesterday when there were present, Messrs H. P. Hewitt (president), E. G. Broad, G. Lambie, F. Hicks, R. Grantham, D. Ariell and the secretary, Mr Edgar James. Sympathy was expressed to Messrs J. S. Fisher and John Reid in their illness. Mr R. J. Coogan, who won the Businessmen’s Cup in 1935, hut did not attend the 1936 trials when there was no competition for this trophy, wrote asking whether, in the event of him winning the cup this year, it would be counted as in succession.

The conditions of the cup are twice in- succession or three times at intervals to win the trophy outright. The secretary of the North Island Sheep Dog Trials Association, in reply to the query, stated that Mr Coogan could not claim the cup even if he won the event this year, as the succession had been broken in 1936.

Mr S. N. Ziman’s resignation was accepted with regret. A donation of £1 1/- was received from the Cambridge Dairy Company with thanks.

Mr Fraser-Smith wrote offering a puppy by “Highland King, any funds from same to go to the club.

The meeting did not accept an offer from the Women’s Division, hut decided to do its own catering at the forthcoming trials. Mr P. W. Suckling made a generous donation of £5 5/- to the club, to be competed for as decided by the committee. The meeting agreed that it be competed for concurrently: with the standard events as follows: (1) The dog making the best head in the fastest time. (2) Fastest run of dog to master after completion of the huntaway event. (3). Maiden competition with maiden dog scoring most points in any of the standard events.

Mr I). W. Ariell donated £2 2/- to the competitor under 21 with maiden dog scoring most points in any one of 4he standard classes, same to be won irrespective of the number of points actually gained. Mr W. S. Brunskill donated a special prize of £1 1/- for Putaruru Club dogs only scoring most points in any of the standard events. Mr H. P. Hewitt was appointed to attend the next group meeting. The annual trials will be held on April 22, 23 and 24.
