PUPILS ASSEMBLE
ST. PETER’S PREPARATORY SCHOOL STAFF AND FIRST ROLL Thirty-six young boys, coming from various * parts of the North Island, and one from as far away as Fiji, assembled at the new St. Peter's Preparatory School on Tuesday evening. Parents of the ‘ pupils were welcomed by the joint headmasters, Mr A. F. B. Broadhurst and the Rev. J. M. Beaufort, and the majority availed themselves of the opportunity of viewing the beautiful new buildings of the recently completed school. The boys were assigned to their respective beds in the three large and airy dormitories, and within a few minutes all seemed entirely at home, full of enthusiasm for their new life.
At six o’clock the boys assembled in the refectory for their first meal at the school.
Yesterday the scholars were grouped into classes, and the day was one of organisation. When school work commences, the day will be divided into six periods, and in the evenings, time will be devoted to preparation studies. Gymnasium work and sport will be an important phase /of school life. 'j The School Staff The boys will pursue their studies tinder the joint headmastership of Mr A. F. B. Broadhurst, M.A. (Oxon) and the Rev. J. M. Beaufort, M.A. (Dublin), who will be assisted by the following staff: First assistant, Mr H. C. Luscombe, B.A. (formerly ■of the staff of King’s College). Staff: Messrs V. E. J. Wells, B.A. (also of King’s College), R. R. Gibson, 8.A., A. K. Hancock and 1). H. Nancarrow, Misses R. Wilkie, E. Wimperis and D. Leatham, L.R.A.M.; Matron: Miss G. M. Swears, qualifiel surgical and fever nurse; Housekeeper: Miss C. M. Sutton, M.8.E.; Secretary: Miss L. Talbot, 8.A.; Physical Instructor: Mr C. Canty, formerly of the Royal Navy. The School Roll The first boys to attend the school will lay the foundation of the .school’s traditions. In future years the original roll printed below will be of much historical interest, not only to the boys and future old boys, but also ,to the Cambridge district. 'Akjut half the present total enrolments are from Auckland, while mr(ny of the pupils come from South Auckland and the Waikato districts. Four of the pupils are from North Auckland. The official opening of the school, hy the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Fraser, will be held next Saturday week, February 22nd.
