KEEP YOUR HEALTH ON TOAST
Do you worry when a membdr of your family says “Oh, I’m not hungry ... ?” Well don’t. Instead, make them a toasted savoury for the next meal. Nobody would eat anything, if it weren’t for bread—and isn’t it strange how we can never resist the cool whiteness and golden crustiness of an ordinary household loaf ? A thick slice of it toasted, and heaped with some appetite tickler is a meal in itself. Who could resist for instance, a thick, crisp slice, toasted lightly, cupped in a large lettuce leaf and heaped with scrambled egg, tipped with sliced tomato. Or a double sandwich, of toasted bread, made with three slices, the bottom layer lined with hard-boiled egg and tomato, the second layer with mashed sardines and shredded lettuce? Delicious !

FAREWELL EVENING A large crowd of parents, scholars and friends assembled at the Kaipaki Hall recently, to say farewell to Mr and Mrs P. Costello and family who are leaving for Taotaoroa, where Mr Costello has been appointed head teacher of the Taotaoroa School. He has been at the Ivaipaki School for the past two years. The evening took the form of a social and dance, the music being supplied by Mr Clayton and Mrs Leckie, of Cambridge. Mr T. McCarthy, secretary to the School Committee, ably carried out the duties of M.C. Songs were given by Mr G. Peters and Miss Taylor, of Cambridge, and were much enjoyed.
Mr Alan Fisher, chairman of the School Committee, spoke in eulogististic terms of Mr Costello as a teacher and expressed regret at his leaving. On behalf of the scholars and parents of the district, he asked him to accept a handsome silver teapot. Two of the senior scholais (Valerie McEdowncy and Joy King) presented Mrs Costello with a beautiful bouquet. Mr T. McCarthy also spoke of the loss Mr Costello would be to the Football Club, in which he had taken a keen interest, and in voicing the appreciation of its members, asked Mr Costello to accept a beautiful crystal fruit dish, mounted on a brass standard.
Mr Costello, on behalf of his wife, his family and himself, said how sorry they all were at having to leave all their friends. He also expressed his thanks for everything the Kaipaki people had done for them during their period in that district. Everyone then joined in singing, “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.”
A “500” tournament, under the guidance of Mr J. Boyd, was won by Mrs Costello and Mr Jim Sexton. A welcome was extended to Mr and Mrs Brown, the new head teacher. Mr Brown has been transferred from Kiwitahi.
Supper, served by the ladies of the committee, brought an enjoyable evening to a close.
