COUNCIL'S MONTHLY MEETING CHILDREN AT THE BATHS The monthly meeting of the Cambridge Borough Council was held on Thursday evening, when there were present, the Mayor, Mr C. H. Priestley, Crs. Edgar James, A. H. Nicoll, Mervyn Wells, Geo. Calvert, W. Moore and K. L. Wilkinson. The Town Clerk (Mr F. T. Ray) and Engineer (Mr T. Dix) were also in attendance.

The" Cambridge District High School Committee wrote further in connection with the children attending the municipal baths, and it was decided to remit the charge for children swimming in school hours as $ class and when accompanied- by a teacher.

The Gaxnbridge Sports Club was grarited perinission to use Victoria Square for a sports meeting on every second-Wednesday evening. The :, Cambridge Power Board wrote in connection with the trees in Alpha 1 Street interfering with the high tension lines. The matter was left to the Mayor and Engineer to deal with.

Following a further letter the Council agreed to share with the Power Board the cost of replacing bulbs and erecting the coloured lights in the streets prior to the festive season.

It was decided to donate £5 to the Waikato Regiment towards the purchase of colours. The Cambridge Swimming Club wrote stating that a "learn to swim" week will be held at the municipal baths during the last week of the school ternj, and requested that children be granted free admission to the baths during that week. The request was granted. The Leamington Town Board wrote in reference to the excess water charge made' on Mr Blackwood's property. It was pointed out that the meter had been overgrown with weeds and had not been read for some considerable time. The Board did not intend to charge its tenant, and requested that the Council accept £lO. It was pointed out that the charg'C was £4O and the-Council agreed to reduce the amount to £2O. The Waikato Land Settlement Society wrote stating that a Hall had been built at the Kairangi Settlement, and in an endeavour to complete payment, it was requested that the Council assist in some way. The Council agreed to grant the society the use of the Town Hall free on an night. A letter from the Waikato Children's Camp Society requesting a donation was received.

The Meteorological Department wrote stating that Mr E. McDonnell was relinquishing the position of observer at the Domain observatory, and requested that the Council appoint someone in his stead. The matter was left in the hands of the Engineer, who stated that he had a likely person in view.

A request was received from the Cambridge Competitions Society for a reduction in the hall charge for the recent festival. It was stated that a loss had again been incurred. It was decided to make a donation to the society of £5, a similar amount to that given last year. Mosquito Pest

Cr Wilkinson referred to the mosquito pest in the vicinity of the Domain Lake, and asked that the members of the Domain Board deal with the matter. He said the treatment of the Lake with kerosene was very simple. Cr James stated that the Domain Board already had a scheme in hand to raise the Lake level and' it was considered that this would reduce the pest considerably. However, he thought the Board might deal with the matter of kerosene treatment in the meantime.

It was decided that a letter be sent to the Domain Board stressing the urgency of the matter.
