LOSS TO HUNTING
DEATHS OF PIONEER MEMBERS VOTES OF SYMPATHY At a recent meeting of the Waikato Hunt committee votes of sympathy were passed to the relatives of the late Mr William Muir Douglas, and the late Mr Robert Speake, both being pioneer members of the Hunt. The Master, Mr Wynn Brown, referred to Mr Douglas as one of the founders of the Hunt. He was Master for some years and was made a life member in 1912. His enthusiasm for the sport saw him build the kennels and he kept the pack on his estate at Bruntwood. He also spent much time and money, making hunting country all over the district. “Mr Speake was another who belongs to the good old school,” said Mr Brown. “Ho was a first-class horseman and a hard rider to hounds in his day. He had taken an active interest in the Hunt Club up to the time of his death.”
