TROUT SEASON OPENS
PROSPECTS FAIRLY GOOD. LOCAL PARTIES' SUCCESS, The 1933-34 trout fishing season iff the Auckland Acclimatisation district opened on October Ist, under favourable conditions. Mr W. Edwards and party fished the' Little Waipa, Waihou and. the Pokai. The total catch was 19 fish amongst four, the largest, landed by Mr Ed' wards, weighed 41bs. The average weight of the fish was small at 2lbs f and one member of the party was fortunate in striking a good fish, weigh' iug from 6 to 81bs, but was unfortunate in losing both it and his tackle. Streams Very Low. The streams are very low owing" tothe lack of recent rains and the opinion was given that after the first flood very good sport would result. : Another member of the party was* struck by the good condition and fighting spirit of the trout and he was of the opinion that this season's opening Was better and brighter than thatof last year. Several parties were out fishing the; more frequented spots, but they, were rewarded with very little returns; in some cases going home with empty bags.
