IMPROVING DOMAIN LAKE.
(To the Editor). Sir, ,In reference to “Our Lake’’ and its borders, I note that a punt has been purchased to help in the removal of rushes and other weeds growing around the edges. This may be quite right or otherwise. In the first instance, if I had any say in the management of the Domain, especially in regard to these growths around the Lake, I would say, give it a clear outlet and the greatest part of work is completed. This at present it has not got, and I am very much afraid that until it has an adequate fall in outlet creek that, any money spent around the edges of the Lake will be wasted. Within five chains of the small footbridge at the eastern end of the Lake there is a sheer drop of 10 to 20 feet at one spot and a total fall from the footbridge to Ivarapiro Stream of fully 40 feet. If the outlet was cleared to give a' clearance of 7 feet at the footbridge, a great or the greater part of the rushes, etc., would die a natural death. Until there is a proper and clear outlet for storm water which is being turned into the Lake I am fully convinced that any work done from a punt is so much money wasted. Yours, etc., ENGLISHMAN.
