PRICE OF BREAD

HALF-PENNY REDUCTION IN

AUCKLAND,

IN OPERATION ON MONDAY,

A reduction in the price of the 21b. loaf by one half-penny, to operate from next Monday, has been decided upon by the Auckland Master Bakers’ Association. This decision follows the decrease of £3 a ton in the price of flour, consequent on the lower duties on wheat and flour.

The official price of bread in Auckland and surrounding suburbs is at present 6Ad over the counter and 7d delivered for the 21b. loaf. Although these prices are recognised as official by the Department of Industries and Commerce, the general price is Gd, this reduction having been made by the bakers some months ago, irrespective of the price of flour. Cut prices have also been operating, bread being obtainable in some shops for as low as 4kl. Price in Cambridge. ' It is understood that the question will be considered by the South Auckland Master Bakers’ Association today. The local bakers will be represented at the meeting by Mr Wm. Muller. Interviewed this morning Mr Muller had nothing to say regarding the prospects of a reduction in Cambridge. He mentioned that the Board of Trade allows country bakers to charge Ad a loaf higher than city rates, to help provide for freight.
