FANTASIA

SOCIALIST LABOUR AND ITS POLICY. The "N.Z. Worker" (official, organ of the Labour Party) in a recent article made clear the Socialist-Labour viewpoint. Asking itself the question, "How can the Government make the best use of the resources at its command?" it answers as follows: "By becoming the only employer, as it would of an army. Abolish the use of money for all internal dealings. The best wages arc food, clothing and shelter. Close the banks as banks, and put the buildings to some useful purpose: e.g., public dining-rooms. Note: Nobody would need to go to a bank, as money would be useless, a six-hour day for the manual worker. Every family to possess a motor-car. Petrol, like all ether necessaries, would bo supplied free in reasonable quantities." These are a few Socialistic ideas. A more fantastic policy of confiscation, destruction, and foolishness would be hard to conceive. Yet every Labour candidate is pledged to support the Socialistic objective of the N.Z. Labour Party, "the socialisation of the means of production, distribution, and exchange." The Labour Party arc making frantic efforts to gain the Treasury Benches by extravagant statements and promises, and a "pink policy." The commonsense of the New Zealand elector is no less than that of the British, and he will show his disapproval of such tactics at the ballot box.*
