THE MANURE SUBSIDY
REV. G.'G. BELL'S STATEMENT APPRECIATION OF ME LYE'S EFFORTS. Archdeacon G. G. Bell has asked that the following statement, regarding the recent granting of a manure subsidy, be published:— I have no wish to enter into political controversy, but I have heard doubts expressed about the veracity of Mr h\ Lye, M.P., in the truth of his claim that he and I were mainly responsible for securing the fertiliser subsidy for the farmers of the Dominion. I wish to state emphatically that Mr Lye's contention is absolutely true. I can never be sufficiently grateful to Mr Lye for the help and advice he gave in this and other matters, and for whatever benefit the reduction of 17/6" per ton in the price of superphosphate has been and will be to the farmers of the Dominion, the farmers have very largely to thank Mr Lye.*
