THE BAND

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. INTERCHANGE OF VISITS WITH TAURANGA. The monthly meeting of the Municipal Band Committee was held in the Band room on Tuesday evening when there were present: Messrs W. White (Chairman), T. A. Hicks, W. Mcanie, S. M. Hall, R. Kingdon, J. Davis and the Secretary (V. G. Boulton). Interchange of Visits. A letter was received from the Tauranga Band suggesting an interchange of visits, the Tauranga Band to visit Cambridge first and combine with the local Band in massed Sunday concerts, both afternoon and evening. The Bandmaster reported favourably on the past two months’ activities of the Band, and mentioned that the attendance at practices had been better. Owing to their being employed at Arapuni it was agreed to give indefinite leave to Bandsmen H. Edge and F. Joyce. Summer Syllabus. The question of evening concerts, at Jubilee Gardens and elsewhere, during the summer 'months was discussed and it was agreed that the Bandmaster, Sergeant and Corporal draw up a suitable programme of concerts in the Cambridge and Leamington Domains and Jubilee Gardens, and to table at next meeting. Winners of Junior Competitions. The Bandmaster reported that he had made his decisions as to the winners of the two promised medals for best junior attender, and for most improved learner, and they were J. Mcanie and Eric Arnold respectively. Five Years' Service. Corporal Hall reported that Bandsman E. Ivingdon had now completed five years’ service with the Band, and was entitled to the five years’ service medal, it being agreed that the medal be obtained. Meeting Nights. Mr Mcanie gave notice of motion for the next meeting that the meeting night for the Committee be changed from the second Tuesday to the second Wednesday in the month.
