It is said that Sir Harry Lauder likes nothing better than a good joke at the expense of his countrymen, but even so he enjoys striking a blow in their defence when he dan, and he generally succeeds in doing that without causing any ill-feeling. On one occasion, someone put to the popular knight the question, ‘‘Can you tell me the difference between a Scotsman and a cocoanut?” The entertainer was wiser than was thought, and he calmly shook his head. “Well,” said the joker, “you can get a drink out of a cocoanut, but ” here he paused with a broad smile. “Wool, moil,” Sir Harry smiled genially, “Ah’m a Scot; would ye like a drink?” “I wouldn't mind,” the other said hopefully. “I thocht sac!” said Sir Harry smiling grimly, “All'll buy ye a cocoanut. ’ ’
