RINGING THE CHURCH BELLS.
(To the Editor). . : * Sir; —'Kindly allow me a little space --, to -reply to the person signing himself •-> "Neighbouring Resident." I honestly i think this person's remarks should be, J . looked on as being slightly humorous. "Resident, " it- appears to me, is • " Scotch; possibly descended from a good - old Scotch family. The Scotch quite", seriously celebrate the New Year and '■ usually with "Scotch." I ajn iof the I ■•» opinion that " Resident'' celebrated. - \ not wisely but too well, with the usual ■■•■ result —-splitting headache and a dull brain. This last would account for the mistake when ho says the bells.were rung for an hour; whereas they started at 11.55 p.m. and finished at 12.10 a.m., : 15'.minutes ringing. If I have summed up '/Resident" correctly then my deepest sympathy, but I would sug- •' gestae take to the bush before DeceMrijf: ber 31st this year.—l am, etc., '> -v;\*£ "ONE WHO ENJOYED THE V> BELLS." Cambridge, 5/1/31. : - • : v|
