CHILDREN’S CAMP
AT PORT WAIKATO. 200 BOYS AND GIRLS ACCOMMODATED. “If you arc going to do anything for the man, you mus't do it for the boy.’' This is the motto of the Waikato Children’s Camp League, and again this year the energetic efforts of the League executive, backed up by the support of the people of the Waikato, will result, in 100 boys and a similar number of girls—children of parents in poor circumstances—enjoying to the full ten days by the sea at Port Waikato.
The executive report that everything is now in readiness for this year’s camp. Four permanent houses have been erected, excellent sanitary arrangements have been made and the ground about/the edmp has been tarred and sanded.
This year the applications for admission far exceed the accommodation, and the committee reluctantly' has had to limit the number to 100 girls and 100 boys.
The camp will be opened on January 9 and the children will be civen a \ ° fortnight’s wholesome food an< ( l exercise in the invigorating atmosphere of the Tasman.
The camp will be in charge of Mr >W. H. Paul, who will be assisted by Mr/ and Mrs H. Ross, Mrs H. D. Cobb, and six boy and six girl prefects.
Parents are asked to remember that the boat will leave the Hamilton wharf sharp at 8 o’clock'on Friday, January 9. All children must be aboard by 7.45. Last year a number of children missed their holiday through arriving late at the boat.
On Saturday, January 17, the camp will bo officially opened by the Minister’ of Health, Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, who will also lay the foundation stone of the new entrance gates, which are constructed with bricks from the old mission stations at Port Waikato and Kohanga. A son of the Rev. Maunsell, aged 70, will be present at the official opening, at which a large attendance is anticipated. v
Gifts of food or other things for the camp should be deposited at- Barton Ross; the Winter Show building, or with the Shipping - Company on January 8.
