CAMBRIDGE DISTRICT TO POKE AT GALLOPS AND TROTS# Cambridge district gallopers ancf trotters were once again prominent during the carnival week held in Auckland during Christmas and New Year# Cambridge horses figured prominently on the four days ’ programme of the-, A.R.C. summer meeting. - Mr Mervyn Wells did surprisingly well with his o-year-old bay gelding, Loving Cup (Quin Abbey—Shell Shock). Trained by his owner at Cambridge Loving Cup i secured a first and two seconds for the mooting. On the first day Loving, Cup was beaten by Havaspot by threequarters of a length in the Robinson Handicap of 7 furlongs. On the third day of the meeting Loving Cup annexed the Ellerslie Handicap with 7.6 up, boating Stonehenge by half a length in this mile event in the time of 1.40. In the sixth race on the same day Loving Cup was sent out again in the 1 County Handicap, 7 furlongs, and was only beaten by Tetfacliate by a neck# Loving Cup carried y 7.12. : On the second day of the meeting: another locally trained horse, ,St. Warrigal, ran third with (10.1) in the Ponsonby Hurdles. Owned by Mr A# Woods, St. Warrigal is trained by Mr T. M. Morriss. -

On the third day Mr W. Mills’ Luminary, by Day Comet-Thurnline, with list up, ran into second place in the New Year’s Hurdles. Going out favourite Luminary, trained by Mr, W. McLean, of Pukcroro, was only beaten bY Mister Gamp by a length. Again, yesterday Luminary was beaten' 1 by Master Lu by five lengths in the Auckland Hurdles. Trotters. On the first day of the Auckland Trots Mr W. F. Saunders’ bay gelding,. Dealer, off the 24yds mark, ran second to Gold t Treasure in the Christmas Handicap, being driven by Mr R. A. McMillan. On the same day Mr McMillan Enawah into third position in the St. Holier’s Handicap, of miles. On the second day Mr R. A. McMillan’s Machine Gun annexed the Champion Handicap of lj miles, off 12yds behind mark. On the same day Mr McMillan again drove Enawah to victory in the Ranfufly Handicap of miles# Enawah is owned by Mr W. Johnstone and trained by Mr McMillan at Tamahere. The same trainer and driver also took Peter McKinney into second place in the Rowe Trotting Cup, of two miles.

In the Premier Handicap of ll miles' Mr T. Shaw’s Joy Bird, from the limit, mark, won by 1.1 lengths. Again EngVah, driven by Mr McMillan,-came out to annex the Handicap. 3
