At five o'clock last evening, John Paton, County Traffic Inspector, was .riding his motor-cycle in the directionof his home at Tc Kopuru when. Became into head-on collision, just over tlie Kaihu bridge on the main road, with a motor van driven by a youtfo named Silich. It was raining hard at the time and evidently Paton did not see the van, which ran right over him, inflicting terrible injuries to his head and legs, both of which were broken. He also received’ arms and chest injuries. He was immediately rushed to the hospital where an operation was performed and to-day, although his condition is very serious, the report givesliopc. The body was recovered later front the burning- wreckage. The opinion has been expressed by spveral experienced airmen that Olsen fainted in mid-air.
