ALLEGED THEFT. SECRETARY OF POWER BOARD ACCUSED. By Telegraph—Press Association. TE KUITI, April 2. Victor Daniel Wisnesky, secretary to the Waitomo Power Board, faced the charge in the Magistrate *s Court to-day that on or about January 20, 1930, being the servant of the Waitomo Power Board; he did steal the sum of £73 12/the property of the Waitomo Power Board. In asking for substantial bail, the case being remanded till April 9th, Detective White said there were other charges pending against the accused in regard to the Power Board's funds, and it was understood that they would include an amount of not less than £ISOO. An even larger sum might be involved, but this would be decided when the audit of the board's books was completed.
Bail was fixed in accused's own recognisance of £SOO, and two other sureties of £250 each, .accused being required to report daily to the police.
SOAP WORKS BURNED.
BLAZE AT PALMEESTON NORTH
LOSS OF £2OOO.

Fire destroyed the Dominion soap works, owned by Brill and Barrow, yesterday afternoon. The loss is estimated at £2OOO. The insurance is £I2OO.
The* outbreak occurred while the workers were in an adjacent building having tea, and the cause is not known. A car in the building was pushed to safety. Four tons of resin, three tons of tallow and nine tons of soap burned furiously for- several hours. The brigade could do nothing, as the works were outside the 1 borough water zone.

EGG-LAYING RECORD.
TOTAL OF 361 FOR 365 DAYS.

The champion Black Orpington hen, owned by Mrs D. M. Waddell, of Tongaporutu, which established a world's egg-laying record for 50 weeks at Normanby two weeks ago, has laid an egg each day for the 14 succeeding days and to-day its total amounted to 361 eggs for 365 days —a world's record for 52 weeks.
The previous world's record was 354 eggs for 365 days. Other performances which have attracted the attention of poultry-breeders were made by a Barred Plymouth Rock hen in' America, which laid 339 eggs, a White Leghorn at Christchurch, with 342 eggs, and a Black Orpington in Australia with 347 eggs.
