OBITUARY
MR C. W. GARRARD. SENIOR SCHOOL INSPECTOR. Having completed 47 years service and within a month of the date fixed for his retirement on superannuation, Mr C. W. Garrard, senior inspector of Auckland district schools, died suddenly last evening after a brief illness. He was in his 62nd year. Mr Garrard was born in Nelspn and received all his education in New Zealand. He attained the position of senior inspector in 1921. For the past three years he has served on the council of Education, being appointed by the Minister of Education.
Mr Garrard is survived by his wife, two sons, Mr D. R. Garrard, of Auckland, and Mr W. R. Garrard, of Cambridge, both well-known cricketers, and one daughter, Mrs W. J. Smeeton.
The friends in this district of Mr and Mrs George Foster (formerly of Whangarei) will regret to learn that their daughter Doris, passed away at Hamilton on the 21st, after a prolonged illness. The late Miss Foster was a niece to Mr E. L. Rodgers of the Independent staff.
