PERSONAL.

Dr F. D. Pinfold, of Hamilton, and Mr C. W. Hamilton, Frankton, have been appointed Justices of the Peace. Mr Milliken, sales manager for the Ford Motor Company, of Canada, Ltd., was in Cambridge on Thursday. Two of the most celebrated golfers in the world, Walter Hagen and J. H. Kirkwood, will arrive at Auckland by the Aorangi from Vancouver to-mor-TOW. At tho meeting of the Borough Council on Thursday evening a vote of sympathy was passed to Cr E. C. Wallis and the relatives of the Wallis family in connection with their recent sad bereavement.

Prior to commencing the ordinary business of the Borough Council on Thursday evening, Cr Chas. Boyce—following on the recent election —was duly sworn in, and was extended a very cordial welcome to the council table by the Mayor (Mr Priestley). The new councillor suitably returned thanks.

On the motion of Crs M. Wells and. W. G. Care it was decided at the monthly meeting of the Borough Council on Thursday evening to place on record the council’s appreciation of exCr P. T. Glanville’s work on the council and services to the borough over a period of eight years. The clerk was instructed to forward a letter of thanks to' Mr Glanville. Both the mover of the motion and the Mayor expressed regret of the circumstances associated with Mr Glanville’s retirement from the council.

Among the guests at the National Hotel a few days ago was Mrs Geoffery Blake, wife of Commodore Blake, who just recently took over senior command of the Dominion’s naval gbit. Commodore Blake is at present with his flagship, H.M.S. Dunedin, at Apia. Mrs Blalcc stayed for five days at Cambridge and was delighted with the English setting. Mrs Blake came out from Sussex, England, arriving in the Dominion at Auckland on November 29. On Tuesday Mrs Blake left to visit Waitomo Caves, and is now staying at Rotorua. Being greatly taken up with Cambridge Mrs Blake intends to pay another visit in the near future.

To mark their appreciation of Mr R. L. James (late of Cambridge), who is leaving the Waipa County Council staff after about three years as assistant engineer to take up an appointment as lecturer at the Canterbury and Lincoln Colleges, the remaining members of the staff entertained him to afternoon tea on Tuesday. With Mr James were his father and mother, from Cambridge. Felisitous speeches were made by Mr J. W. Civil, county engineer, and Mr T. Grant, county clerk, in which they referred to the cordial relationships existing and the conscientiousness of Mr James, whom all wished success in his new career. Mr James was asked to accept, as a token of kindly remembrances, a solid leather suit-case. Mr James feelingly responded, and said if as pleasant associations were experienced in Canterbury as at Te Awamutu he would indeed be fortunate. ,
