GRAND BALL. ANNUAL FUNCTION. < - ■ (From Our Own Correspondent.) The fourth annual ball, organised by the Hall Committee, was held on Tuesday evening last, and was a brilliant success.. It also celebrated the re-open-ing of the Hall after the erecting of the new ceiling. ‘ The sitting committee, who have been returned several years, and whose members are Messrs. J. Boyd (chairman), R. .Speake (secretary), J. Graham, F. Cowic,' D. Walker, H. A. GoOdwin, and W. W. Tarr, are to be congratulated upon the progress and improvements they have made in recent years to the hall. Their aim has been to give as much comfort as possible to its patrons. Last year the walls were lined, and this year the ladies’ dressing-room was greatly improved and the ceiling put in. Kaipald can now boast of having one of the largest and finest halls of any of the country districts. The scene on Tuesday night was like Fairyland, From the gleaming new ceiling, from which hung gay canopies of rainbow streamers, festooned to the walls, and interspersed with Chinese lanterns and greenery, to the beautiful and multi-coloured dresses of the ladies on the floor, a maze of dazzling light and colour, most pleasing to the eye, was to be seen, whilst delightful dance music emanated from Mr. C. Baufield s orchestra, which was accommodated on the stage., The'duty of was in the capable hands of Messrs R. Speake and W. W. Tarr.

The supper-room was prettily decorated with coloured streamers and greenery, whilst the heavily-loaded table, with its numerous dainty dishes, reflected great credit upon the ladies of the committee, who had taken a-great deal of trouble to make all the delicious things which were displayed, and which sfiemed to be so much enjoyed. The playing of “God Save the King” brought a most happy and successful evening to a finish. Ladies’ Dresses. Amongst the guests were: Mesdames A. Goodwin, black georgette; J.
