WOMEN’S DIVISION

FARMERS' UNION. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held in the Clubrooms yesterday, when the President (Mrs. J. A. Wallace) presided over a good attendance. New Members. The following new members were elected:—Mesdamcs E. H. Hall, Smart, Ziman, and Miss G. O'Toole. Medical Lectures. Mr. Stephens, W.E.A. organiser, reported that he had been in touch with medical men and that live had consented to give addresses at public meeting, commencing in July. Remits. The following remits were adopted for forwarding to the Dominion Conference to be held next month at Wellington: —(1) That this branch strongly objects to sole charge of country schools being given to young teachers from training colleges. (2) That it bo recommended to the Department of Education that 'in all principal country centres special classes for backward children be instituted, under speciallytrained and selected teachers, any children from schools, recommended in writing by their own teacher, to be eligible for attendance. (3) That strong efforts be made to obtain immediately school dental services for all children attending rural schools where private dental facilities do. not exist. (4) In view of the splendid growth of the Division during recent years, the time has now arrived when provinces* should be constituted on similar lines to the Farmers' Union, and this conference directs headquarters to give full and early consideration to this matter. Conference Delegates. Mesdames Wallace and Feisst were appointed delegates to the conference. It was decided that the branch provide 1 a babies' outfit for the Dominion comfort box. General. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Cambridge Library for a donation of books. • ■ Votes of sympathy wore extended to several members who had recently sustained bereavements. * • ■
