A FEW NOTES.

(By "MID-IRON.")

Last Saturday's match against the Wairakau Club was, as usual, a most enjoyable feature. The latter club have reconstructed their course, and it is now sporting and interesting. Alford_ and Boyce played well, and accounted for Middleton and Garland. The latter player hits a fine ball off the tee, but is inclined to be weak with his irons. A. H. Nicoll had a hard fight with Dalziell, and the result was in doubt right up to the last green, to finish in. Nicoll's favour. A. W. Nicoll was lucky to square his game with Plowden, as he was five down at the seventh. However, he settled down ih fine gtyie from the eighth to finish all squarS. Nelson played his usual good game, and won his match, from C. Peake at'the 16th greeni Witherow. ■jv'.as beaten at the 16th by E. Peake, who is usually hard to beat on his.home course. E. Niekle was too good for Meeking, the match finishing at the 14th hole. Niekle's golf has probably improved since his visit to Auckland. Bradstreet accounted for Wairakau's secretary, B. Hill, at the 14th green, and Calvert had to strike his colours to Currie in a very close finish. So far this season, Calvert has not struck his true fornj, but should show up at any time. , Symonds played steady golf, and won hi 3 match from T. Hill at the 13th green. Rowland was beaten by A. Dalziell in a close game at the 17th green. James squared his match with Waite, but Cox was just beaten by Osborne on the last green. ' The matches between the ladies were all very close finishes, with the advantage in favour of the Wairakau players, who won five matches to one. The remaining match finished all square.

All the local players, and particularly those who suffered defeat, are anxiously waiting for a return match.
