A GOOD START MADE. At a well-attended meeting at Te Awamutu, presided over by Mr Mark Barnett, it was decided to form an Amateur Operatic The folio-wing principal officers were elected: —Patron, Mr L. G. Armstrong, Mayor of Te Awamutu: president, Mr L. J. Whittington; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. T. North, E. W. McCarter and H. T. Collins; joint secretaries, Messrs E. White and M. Barnett; treasurer, Mr A. F. Walker; musical director, Mr E. Moeller; deputyconductor, Mr J. T. North; committee, Mesdames W. 11. Wood. A. F. Walker, G. M. A. Ahier, T. D. Thomas, J. Hawkins and A. A. Chittenden, Miss Edna Langmuir and Mr 8., F. Morriss; pianiste, Mrs J. Hawkins; librarian, Mrs Wood. It was proposed to make a Teal start early in the new year, probably in the first week of February, and to this end the committee will be called together on 13th December. Discussion arose over a suggested opera for the opening performance, and those mentioned included “The Arcadians, ” “Katinka,” and “La Mascotte,” but a choice will be left to the committee.
