THE CANAL SCHEME. , TAKING NO ACTION. THE GOVERNMENT’S ANNOUNCEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The construction of a canal betwpen the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours will have to be initiated and carried through by Auckland enterprise, for the Government does not intend to take any action with regard to the proposal This announcement was made by the Minister of Marino, Hon. (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Canterbury Park, formerly the property of tho Canterbury Park Totting Club, has been puchased by Sir Henry Wigram. Tho property, which consists of 82 acres, adjoins the Wigram aerodrome, ono part jutting into the aeroplane land. ART DIRECTOR RESIGNS. CHRISTCHURH, this day. \ Archibald F. Nieoll, who has been director of the School of Art, Christchurch, for the past eight years, has handed his resignation to the Board of Governors of Canterbury College.
