ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. • After wo went to press on Thursday the case, against the young native, Darcy Puahuo Hammond, for the theft of various articles to the value of £ls ;j/4, from his late employer, Mr Forbes Herbert Anderson, farmer, of Hautapu, was continued. Forbes Herbert Anderson saiij Hammond had been in his employ until March 21st. He then left on two days" holiday. Receiving information from Mr Cubis he searched the house and found the bedroom disarranged. He informed the police and with Constable Cleary again thoroughly searched the house and found various article besides money missing. With the constable he went across to the railway station and there discovered accused sitting in a corner of the building. Upon request, and after some hesitation, accused had produced the stolen watch. Accused was then arrested. Subsequently, a bracelet, pendant and a brush had been produced at the police station, the articles being witness and his wife’s property. Had accused come, to witness on the evening of the 2(sth and asked for his room under ordinary circumstances he would not have been refused. Accused was a good worker and witness had never suspected him of theft. Flora Me Col l Anderson, wife' of the previous witness, corroborated previous evidence. Constable Cleary gave evidence as to the search of Mr Anderson ’s house and to arresting accused at the Hautapu railway station. Later accused admitted taking the various articles. • Accused had nothing to say, pleaded guilty to all charges, and was committed to the Auckland Supreme Court for sentence. / .
