Darby introduced the matter when he complained of a tradesman in the Putaruru riding using a vehicle with chains attached on an unmetalled road. Cr Darby said the offender had caused iuuch damage to a certain road, and it was' time the council took some action to prevent repetitions of the practice. Ho thought--that a vehicle with chains should come under the classification. of an iron-shod vehicle . It was resolved to obtain the county solicitor's opinion on the matter. It was further agreed to. warn another well-known offender in this respect, ' ' ' ; .

Tint engineer said that on t'ha whole, good results were being obtained from notices pnt up prohibiting tho use of chains on metal roads. .
