Archbishop Redwood celebrated his 88th. birthday yesterday. Mr H. E. Bimmonds, of ts on a short visit to Cambridge.
Among the visitors to Cambridge is Mr G. H. -Wallace, of Auckland, erstwhile of Cambridge.
Dr L. Coekaync, of Wellington, has been elected a corresponding member of the Botanical Soeiety of America.
Sir Edwin Mitcbelson celebrated his B.lst birthday-, yesterday. He was the recipient of congratulations from all sections of the community.
The death of Mr John Lcydon in Auckland on Thursday removed another of the pioneers of the Thames goldfields.
Miss Marjorie Mac far lane, who has been playing tennis consistently throughout the season in England, is now iu the South of France. At Cannes she readied the semi-finals, but was beaten by Miss By an. At Nico site played with Miss Lumley Ellis and they reached the finals, being- beaten by Miss Eileen Bennett, winner of the singles, and Mrs Satterthwaito. 'ln the matches at Monte Carlo, according to latest news, Miss Macfarlan© was to play with Mrs Chawshaw Williams, representing Australia and Hew Zealand in the Beaumont Cup. Before her return to England, where she hopes to play again at Wimbledon, Miss Macfarlane will visit Mrs O’Biordan, foimerly Miss Bertha Young, at Gibraltar. —Herald.
